Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The Pirelli P Zero Race TLR RS is Pirelli's ultimate tyre and was developed in collaboration with World Tour Teams.
- The SmartEVO 2 compound optimally combines perfect grip and maximum speed.
- This RS version has a lower rolling resistance (-16%) and is lighter (-8%) than the P Zero Race TLR tyre.
- Improved fit to wheel rim due to the redesigned bead thread, for an easy and realiable tubeless set-up.
- This tyre is tubeless-ready. The 28, 30 and 32 mm versions are compatible with hookless rims.
- With its main focus on speed, grip and comfort, this tyre compromises somewhat on durability.

SmartEVO 2 compound
The SmartEVO 2 compound is Pirelli's most advanced racing compound and consists of three different polymers, which are combined perfectly to ensure the best possible performance. It provides fantastic grip as well as a low rolling resistance, and is used by professional Lidl-Trek cyclists, among others. You'll have perfect control over your bike, whatever the weather.
SpeedCore design
SpeedCore is a unique, high-performance tubeless-ready design from Pirelli, featuring an aramid layer in the tyre's rubber.
This structure provides both strength and support, as well as ensuring comfortable and smooth cycling by minimising rolling resistance and maximizing grip. This, combined with a 120 TPI nylon carcass, provides optimal puncture resistance.
Test results
This tyre has improved greatly compared to the previous P Zero Race TLR tubeless road bike tyre, both in terms of speed and weight. The latest tests show that the P Zero Race TLR RS tyre has a 16% lower rolling resistance compared to its predecessor, and weighs an impressive 8% less. For example, the 28 mm version weighs in at a mere 290 grams!
Tubeless-ready
The P Zero Race TLR RS can be used both with tubes and tubeless, which is of course the fastest, lightest option. The new TLR design increases puncture resistance and speed. Plus, this tyre features a newly designed bead which fits even better onto modern rims. In all, this is a perfect, airtight tyre that's both reliable and easy to fit.
• 700x26c / 26-622: 270 g
• 700x28c / 28-622: 290 g
• 700x30c / 30-622: 310 g
• 700x32c / 32-622: 340 g
The weight as stated by the manufacturer may differ from the tyre's actual weight. This deviation is generally small and is caused by manufacturing process variations.
• The 28-622 (28 mm) version and wider tyres (30, 32 mm) are suitable for hookless rims. Please note make sure not to exceed your rim's maximum tyre pressure!

Lovely, fast and comfortable… but never again!
I bought these tyres because I absolutely wanted a nice, pale sidewall. I’ve been riding the Continental GP5000 for years, and I’m really happy with them. As the Continental tubeless version was only available with brown sidewalls, I eventually gave in to the lovely Pirellis. And to be honest: in terms of looks, they really are stunning in real life! They’re also top-notch when it comes to the ride. They roll quickly, are exceptionally comfortable and almost make you feel as if you’re sitting on a flying carpet. What’s more, for summer tyres, they offer good grip in the bends, even in wet weather. In that respect, there’s little to fault. But then… the fitting. What a nightmare getting that tyre on! I tried absolutely everything: heating it up, stretching the tyre, pulling it on with two people, using tyre levers, applying soapy water, using a rope… and eventually just about everything at once. Nothing helped. It just seemed impossible to get the tyre onto the rim. In the end, I had to buy a tyre lever, and that’s how I finally managed it. (Top tip: if you do buy this tyre, make sure you order a tyre lever as well!) I’ve fitted plenty of tyres, but I’ve never experienced anything like this with any other brand. My conclusion: a top-notch tyre, but the fitting process is an absolute deal-breaker for me. If I get a puncture on the road and need to fit an inner tube, I don’t want to be standing by the side of the road struggling with a tyre that I can barely fit at home. So, however good it looks and rides, I won’t be buying it again.

Grip and puncture resistance in one
After a change of direction with Vittoria, back to our old roots – and no regrets.

The perfect racing tyre
Perfect for when you want to drive fast whilst still maintaining grip in tight bends
Pros & Cons
4 / 5
A good tyre with plenty of grip
Do not inflate too much; lower tyre pressure (5 bar) ensures a comfortable ride.
Pros & Cons
5 / 5
Easy assembly and fitting for a complete set. 1 to be checked during running tests.
I’ve noticed that a lot of people have found them tricky to fit. Personally, I found the second one a bit of a struggle to get round the wheel, but overall they’re no worse than others, such as the Pro One. Both of them inflated easily using a pressure tank instead of a compressor.
